Sunflower oil is a natural, light, all-purpose oil that is extracted from sunflower seeds. It has many benefits and is generally used for health/medicinal and cosmetic purposes, being that it is rich in nutrients and antioxidants.

This oil is also known to be effective against acne, eczema, inflammation, general redness and irritation of the skin. With its calming and moisturizing properties, sunflower oil is a natural and healthy way of maintaining healthy hair and skin.

Let’s dive into its benefits for hair and skin.

1. SUNFLOWER OIL: Moisturizes the skin

With its important linoleic acid (fatty acids) and vitamin E acting as an emollient, sunflower oil helps your skin retain moisture and keeps it hydrated for long periods of time by forming a protective barrier over the skin.

2. SUNFLOWER OIL: Helps fight acne

The anti-inflammatory benefit of sunflower oil speeds up the skin’s healing process and keeps acne at bay while protecting it from free radicals.

3. SUNFLOWER OIL: Anti-ageing properties

Sunflower seed oil is high in vitamin E, which protects the collagen and elasticity of the skin from weakening as we age. In addition, it helps prevent fine lines, wrinkles and premature ageing of the skin, making it a great natural anti-ageing ingredient and protection from the sun. *SPF is still very important.

4. SUNFLOWER OIL: Controls frizz

Due to its light texture and deep moisturizing properties, sunflower oil helps to tackles dryness, tame frizz and improves your natural hair’s overall manageability.

5. SUNFLOWER OIL: Conditions hair

Its emollient properties keep hair soft and moist and assists with tangling. It easily penetrates your hair shaft and prevents moisture from leaving your strands.

6. SUNFLOWER OIL: Prevent hair thinning

Sunflowers contain a high percentage of linoleic acid, which helps in preventing hair from thinning and breaking.

MY EXPERIENCE

Here is how I use sunflower oil in my daily beauty routine:

SKIN
1. Apply directly to the skin.
2. Create a mixture of rose water, Aloe Vera juice, and glycerin. You can add the sunflower oil to this mixture and spray it on your face or simply apply the sunflower oil to the skin afterwards. This leaves the skin moisturized and dewy, creating a summery glow.

HAIR
1. Apply directly to your hair: Liquid, Oil, Cream (LOC) / Liquid, Cream, Oil (LCO)
2. Mix rose water, Aloe Vera juice, glycerin and sunflower oil. Use this as a leave-in spray – this is great for the summertime because glycerin draws moisture from the air into your hair.
