Hey Gems! Welcome back to another blog post. Today’s post is about Castile SOAP. As I am on the journey to finding and using more natural products, I discovered this household staple. Castile soap is nothing new amongst the environmentally conscious community; it is just now gaining more popularity in the mainstream. That said, I want to share with you 5 beauty uses of liquid Castile soap and its benefits for hair and skin.
WHAT IS CASTILE SOAP?
Castile soap is a non-toxic, biodegradable, plant-based soap, traditionally made from olive oil. Whereas, regular soaps are made from animal fat. Castile soaps were mainly made in different European countries, but with the abundance of olive oil in Castile, Spain, this region became the main producer of the soap. Giving it, its name.
Further, pure Castile soap can either be found in bar or liquid form. With the latter being easier to use and has more of multi-purpose functions. Today, Castile soap is made from so many different oils, such as olive, coconut, avocado, almond, palm, hemp and others. Fun fact: this soap was inspired by the Aleppo soap, which has been said to be used by Queen Nefertiti.
1. CASTILE SOAP: Shampoo
When it comes to products, a lot of us have been paying more and more attention to the ingredients in our hair and skin care products. Additionally, with so many toxic ingredients found in most shampoos, which can leave our hair feeling stripped of all natural oils and dry. Replacing your regular shampoo with Castile soap can leave your hair feeling healthier. On the other hand, make sure to deep condition with your favourite conditioner, this helps to restore the pH balance in your hair since Castile soap is extremely alkaline. Also, apple cider vinegar diluted with water is a natural option to restoring the PH balance in your hair.
2. CASTILE SOAP: Face Cleanser
Castile Soap works great for all skin types since it does not contain any harsh chemicals such as those found in your popular store brands. It is a nourishing cleanser all on its own, but, if you want to “zhuzh” it up – I personally, don’t break my head when it comes to using this soap, or anything else for that matter. However, a super quick and easy DIY for some added moisture is to mix it with sunflower oil (or your favorite light oil) since it has so many benefits for the skin and hair. You can do the same when using it as a shampoo.
3. CASTILE SOAP: Body Wash
Another great use for Castile soap is to use it as your body wash. Again, you can use it all on its own or you can get a few BPA-free dispenser bottles (Amber glass bottles) from Amazon and become a mini alchemist. Mix ½ to a full cup of liquid Castile soap, a few drops of tea tree essential oil and lavender essential oil (if your Castile soap isn’t scented) and VOILA! You’ll have an affordable, nourishing, bacteria-fighting body wash!
4. CASTILE SOAP: Makeup Brush Cleaner
Castile soap is mild but tough on dirt, oil and bacterial, which makes it the perfect product for cleaning your makeup brushes.
DIY – Do It Yourself
- Wet your brush.
- Add a drop or two of liquid Castile soap directly to your brush and work it in.
- Rinse until the water is clear.
- Repeat step 2 if needed.
- Wipe with a towel and lay to dry.
5. CASTILE SOAP: Shaving Cream/Gel
Rub some Castile soap on your hands and apply it to the desired area you wish to shave. Add your favorite oil, such as coconut, sunflower, olive or avocado oil, for some added moisture. Once you are done shaving, moisturize with that same carrier oil on damp skin.

MY EXPERIENCE
For me, Castile soap lives in my bathroom. I use it to do every single thing mentioned above and more. As a recovering product junkie, I save a lots of money and space with one product. We spend so much money on products filled with chemicals and ingredients that we cannot even pronounce. Castile soap is a multipurpose product that doesn’t break the bank, especially if you think of all the things it can do – there are more uses for castile soap that I haven’t mentioned in this post. Besides, high-quality products don’t have to cost a fortune.
I hope you enjoyed this blog post and that it comes in handy whenever you are ready to try a multipurpose product like Castile soap. Share this post and your thoughts in the comment section below.
