If you’ve followed my journey for the past few months, you may have noticed my love for natural (DIY) skincare products. As much as I love making my products, my skin requires certain ingredients, that I could never concoct in my kitchen. This being the case, I’ve had my eye on The Ordinary products for a while now. Since they have such great formula, I finally decided to try it.
About The Ordinary
The Ordinary is a popular skincare brand, based in Toronto, Canada. They have been around since 2016 and are under the DECIEM brand umbrella. More commonly recognized for its amazing ingredients and a wide selection of products. This skincare line is focused on formulas that are science-based and effective ingredient percentages.
The brand is also known for its affordable low price points, that range between 5$ – 10$, and sometimes a little higher. In addition, they put little to no emphasis on advertisements, endorsements, and packaging. Hence, their minimalist look, which allows for the affordability of their products.
Further, my understanding of the brands’ mission is that they strive to be transparent, affordable, environmentally conscious, and educational. The main focus is directed toward the quality of their products. As a result, the brand is very appealing to ordinary people, that just want clear, beautiful skin.
Not to mention, they are vegan and cruelty-free. Yes!

My Skin
My skin is more on the oily/combination side. This means I am more oily within my T-zone and drier in certain spots. For the longest time, I have been treating my skin like a grease ball. Not realizing it, I had gone from oily to a combination skin type. Consequently, my drier areas have worsened. Reasons why I opted for a more hydrating product selection from The Ordinary. My selection doubles as the perfect concoction for the colder weather.
Moreover, I picked the 5 products below, based on my main skin concerns. Which are blemishes, hyperpigmentation, and dullness. My goal is to have clear/even, hydrated, firm, and bright skin. I know. I want a lot. But, I am willing to work for it. Also, since these products are very affordable, it is easy to get carried away. Accordingly, make sure you buy products that your skin needs.
The Daily Set
Included in the Daily set is:
- 1x Squalane Cleanser – 50ml
- Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 – 30ml
- Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA
Squalane Cleanser
The Ordinary’s squalane-based face cleanser and makeup remover are the brand’s first cleansing product. This thick, creamy and gentle cleanser is suitable for all skin types. It leaves the skin feeling moisturized without clogging it.
Additionally, this cleanser does not contain any soap agents. Meaning, it does not foam or gives me the squeaky clean effect that I like. Therefore, I chose to use it before cleaning my face with my castile soap. I usually do this only when I wear make-up. It feels like I am returning moisture into my skin without stripping it clean.
Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
Hyaluronic Acid is a clear gooey substance that is found in the skin naturally. It functions by helping them draw in moisture, retain moisture, and prevent moisture from leaving the surface of the skin. This leaves the skin looking plump, hydrated, and glowy. I use this product day and night. I love this product, you see results almost instantly.
Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA
The natural moisturizing factor + HA (Hyaluronic Acid) protects and hydrates the skin’s outer layer. Its formula contains compounds that are naturally found in the skin such as amino acids, fatty acids, and HA. This product leaves your skin feeling hydrated instantly. My skin eats it up, it doesn’t look or feel greasy, just hydrated.

CASTILE SOAP AND IT’S MANY BEAUTY USES
Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
Niacinamide is a B-3 vitamin that helps the appearance of blemishes, minimizes pores, and is also a great moisturizing agent. Zinc on the other hand is an anti-inflammatory that treats damaged skin, regulates oil, and promotes skin regeneration. With these ingredients, this product is great for the overall look of the skin. The product is watery/gooey in texture and very easy to apply. I only use this product at night.
Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Sphere 2%
Vitamin C L-ascorbic suspension is the most effective form of Vitamin C for skincare. It is a brightening agent that helps reduce fine lines and hyperpigmentation amongst other things. This product is water-free, thick in texture, has a grainy feel and tingles when applied. I use the vitamin C suspension 23% + HA sphere 2% at night only. When applied in the morning, it is recommended to wear sunscreen but will not look good under make-up. In contrast, it is not suggested to use this product at the same time as any niacinamide treatments.
